HABITAT RESTORATION
Environmental Club is volunteering for a non-profit organization, Amigos De Los Rios [Click the link to learn more about what they do!] Basically they help restore run-down public areas by getting rid of the invasive species, and replacing them with native plants in order to create self-sustaining environments that are beautiful, and conserve resources.

Please come in clothes you wouldn't mind getting dirty, and close-toed shoes would be best as well! You will probably be helping with weeding with these awesome Japanese weeding knives known as "hori-hori", helping to pick up trash, or maybe even planting native plants! Don't worry! Gloves will be provided, but often if there are too many people, we'd have to resort to sharing which makes it all the more fun. There might be other students from other high schools attending too, so take this chance to make some new friends!

E-waste Sign-ups

Hello Environmentalists! 

Another year of saving the planet has begun. 

Let's start by helping out at the annual E-waste located right on our very own campus!

We'll be helping in the South parking lot (the one near the E building), either directing traffic, or helping people unload their cars. We advise you to bring clothes you wouldn't mind getting soiled because there is a chance you may get them dirty. ^_^ Please spread the word to everyone you know! Even if you are unable to stay and help, simply coming by to drop off your old electronics would contribute greatly to our goal of keeping our planet cleaner. 

Note: E-waste will NOT be accepting appliances such as refrigerators, washers, and dryers due to the chemicals they contain. Anything else would be fine though, such as batteries, computers, monitors, TVs, old telephones, and more! The bigger and heavier, the better! [:

Carnival Car Wash

Hi everyone! How's your summer going along? We hope it's well. 

Environmental usually does not have any events in the summer, but this is urgent and we need your help! We will be working with NHS, and Key Club to help with setting up the carnival, selling food, or helping with the car wash. The money will go towards purchasing $5 bags of food to donate to regional food banks. This is a bit last minute, so SPREAD THE WORD.

Meeting this Thursday (May 17)

Monterey Park Earth Day Bike Ride!

Celebrate Earth Day with some volunteer work at the Monterey Park Earth Day Bike Ride!

And no!
Biking skills are not necessary!
We will most likely be helping out with the Earth Day Festival following the Bike Ride.

There will be informational booths (freebies ;O),  various workshops, and the Salvation Army will be there to collect used clothing and furniture!

Green your school challenge!

San Gabriel High School has been entered in the Green Your School Challenge!

The goal is to get as many of these projects done by April 22, with as much people as possible, then post pictures with a short description of what you did. We're also planning some events based on this challenge, so look forward to that! There is a $5,000 prize for the two of the winning schools to put towards future green projects, and $1,000 prizes for 10 schools with the most participants signed up, as well as individual scholarships. With the basics covered, let's get on to Environmental's challenges.

Yes, you have been challenged. 

Challenge #1: Take a few minutes to sign up using this link. Just fill in your email address, phone number optional, and click submit. Then fill in the form after that, and voila! You're in. Now...

Challenge #2: Choose a minimum of two of the project ideas from the project list. (I realize, the word project sounds really overwhelming, but in actuality these tasks are quite simple, such as turning the lights off everytime you leave the room, or carpooling to school. Really, I'm not kidding, check out the project list.) Try to do them as diligently and whenever you get the chance, for a week. (Or if you already do them, even better!)

Challenge #3: Take pictures of you doing the project, log in to your account, and post the pictures with an accompanying description to our Green Your School Challenge gallery.

Challenge #4: Get as many of your friends and family to do it with you!

Rinse, and repeat steps #2-4 each week until the deadline. Easy, right?

• Must be 1/4 of a page.
  Take a sheet of paper, fold it hamburger style. Then hamburger-style again, and voila! Start designing.

• And of course! It must be Earth Day, or environmentally related

I have looked over all the meetings and service hours.
This will be the updated status for probation and such.
Please remember that you need 3 service hours or you will be removed from the club.
This Friday's recycling and possible Project Reach (if Mr. Osborne is well enough)  counts towards first semester.

Sorry for the late post! I was extremely busy and finally found time to update everything.

I also added a column of the hours you have so far. Be sure to also complete your service hours requirement. Remember you need at least 3 hours by the end of the semester!
